Hello my little baby,
You get two letters from me this week because I’m trying to catch up on old posts. Lucky little pepper!
I know you exist in my belly, but writing to you has made it feel as if you were already part of our everyday lives. It’s as if every day I was rushing to wake up, just to put a hand on my belly and know you’re still there. Your daddy and I love you so much already. And we’re going to let you know every day!
You’ll soon find out that on my side of the family, people are not used to expressing love. Every day, your Dad and I tell each other we love each other, but I don’t remember ever hearing that from my parents. As a kid, I always wanted them to say ‘I love you’ more often. They did to me sometimes, but mostly to make me feel guilty for embarrassing them or something. I’ve never heard it said to each other. I’ve never seen them hug. I don’t want to put you through that. That’s another cultural tradition I am definitely going to be breaking.
Your dad and I are true partners, in life and in business. I know I’ve always taken the unconventional route in my life, even when it comes to you, but I wouldn’t have it any other way if it meant you knew the importance of expressing love. And I promise you that you will see an example of love every day of your life. I guess the best way to teach you about expressing love is by doing it as much as I can. I might not be able to give you everything you want in life, but I can give you that.
Your daddy just cut some basil leaves for me from our basil plant because he knows I love the smell of them and I love cooking with them. I love him so much.
And I love you too,
